Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has given Chelsea a clear run at Juventus star Alex Sandro after Luke Shaw convinced the Portuguese boss that he can be the club’s left-back for years to come.
Sandro, 26, has been tracked by both United and Chelsea over the last 12 months and Juventus has admitted that the Brazilian is free to leave the club – if a club meets their £60m valuation. United’s interest peaked towards the start of this campaign when Mourinho – peeved at Shaw’s attitude and poor fitness – turned to Ashley Young ahead of Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian as his first choice left-back. However, Shaw has started seven of United’s last eight matches and Mourinho’s buoyed by the England international’s new-found focus and application.
Shaw is out of contract in the summer but United is expected to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his contract and is likely to offer him a new deal.
