As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United have opened talks with French club Bordeaux about signing winger Malcom.
What’s the story?
Jose Mourinho’s side have stumbled in recent weeks, with rivals Manchester City opening up a potentially unassailable lead at the top of the English Premier League table.
One of their main issues has been a lack of attacking creativity, especially on the flanks, with the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford inconsistent with their form.
Mourinho appears to be looking for a long-term solution with the Daily Mail reporting that the Portuguese views winger Malcom as one of Europe’s top young prospects.
The paper say that Man United have opened talks with Bordeaux for the winger, although the £33m they’re prepared to spend falls short of the French club’s £50m valuation.
The deal would be done in January, with the player loaned back for the rest of the season, according to the report.
Who is he?
Malcom is a player in superb form this season, scoring nine goals goals and assisting four more in 22 appearances for a side that are struggling to put distance between themselves and the Ligue 1 relegation zone.
A Brazilian youth international, the 20-year-old is a classic winger who enjoys taking on defenders, can cross with pace and accuracy and loves a shot from distance.
Developing under Jose Mourinho could bring his game to the next level and add a new dimension to the United right flank, which has been something of a problem position all season with Jesse Lingard’s move into more central areas.
Is he the next South American star to take the Premier League by storm?
